Our skater friends in Toronto, Canada will soon be able to learn the ins and outs of deck design, woodworking and craftsmanship with the grand opening of the Roarockit Boardmaking School.
After almost four years as a web-based business selling make-your-own board kits, DIY skateboard company Roarockit is opening a school where aspiring board makers can attend hands-on boardmaking seminars ranging from basic street deck making right up to experimental concave longboard designs.
The school’s founders - ex-Hawaiians Ted Hunter and Nora Jackson - hope that the school will also become an exhibition center for local and national board makers to display their craft.
“It’s a great program,” Jackson said. “You learn about woodworking, design, graphic design and when they’re done they can either teach others or start their own business.”
